The 10 Oval Crimps Set #1 is a group of crimpers that are all incut. With their straightforward basic design, they are the grip and go type of hold. Our climbers use these to maintain their crimp strength indoors and save the really hard crimping for outdoor routes.
The average width of the holds is 3" inches, but the oval curve adds just the right amount of length to fit your thumb and all four of your fingers.
Women will get three-quarters of their finger pads on the holds. So these do feel easier for the smaller hand. Men should expect to get half of a finger pad on these 1/2" deep crimps.
Since the holds are all similar in size and have a no-nonsense crimper edge to grab, the variety you get is based on the angle of the incut.
The angles of the incuts are 35,40,45, and 50-degrees. To explain this further, if you put one of the crimps with a 45-degree incut on a 45-degree overhanging wall, the incut of the crimp will be horizontal to the ground. In this scenario, you are looking at holds in the V6 to V8 range.
Out of the three sets in the Oval Crimp Line, Set #1 is the most positive for the beginner. On a vertical wall, you should expect a V1 feeling hold. Therefore, set #1 is a good choice for the beginner wanting to up their game.
